I spent the latter part of Friday evening taking in some bands down at The Mad Hatter here in Covington. It was the first night in some time that you could find sweat on the brow of everyone in attendance, welcome back humidity, you have a familiar place here in Cincinnati. Editors were first up and played a very tight set. I had been told that they would bring a Interpolesque sound to the stage but I didnt see much of that. I really though they held thier own and performed very well, a definite band worth listening to more. I look forward to thier maturation. The main act of the night was up next in Stellastarr, and then the sweat really began to pour. My first impression, they look different than they sound. I know this isnt a big deal in the grand scheme of things but when I hear a band that reminds me a little of The Cure I kinda expect some eyeliner ya know? Anyway, the college rock look is more up Stellastarr’s alley and they wear it well. Lead man, ladfjlda brings some great energy to the stage and has an impressive presence up there as well. I hate to be cliche but the highlight of the set for me was “Sweet Troubled Soul”. I know, I know, big radio friendly hit right? Well it was the one that knocked the earwax loose for me, and I havent stopped humming it since. As I stepped outside after the show and headed for my car, rain poured from the sky and lighting lit the clouds as a spring storm rolled in. You know its been a good night if the sounds outside are ringing from the show. If you get the chance to check Stellastarr or Editors out on thier current tour, do it…….
