I don’t mean of course to “celebrate” the passing of the king, but rather to remember that 30 years ago today he passed away. You won’t know this from reading Each Note Secure, but I have always been a big fan of Elvis, and have loads of his music as well as a few books.
To prove a point that there will never be another King, here are a few cover tunes of his work that I don’t care for at all.
Pet Shop Boys Cover Elvis Presley’s – Always On My Mind from Introspective
Cheap Trick cover Elvis’s “Don’t Be Cruel” in 1988
Bon Jovi, Cinderella and Scorpions Cover Hound Dog Live
Here is the King doing one of my favorite of his songs, “In The Ghetto”
I love this one too, video footage with “It’s Now Or Never” playing….
And now, truly a great cover song, a live version of Jim James from My Morning Jacket covering “Suspicious Minds”, my favorite Elvis tune of all time…..
Jim James (MMJ) – Suspicious Minds (Elvis Cover Live)
Thanks for posting this, Joe. I think a lot of kids in our generation don’t show a lot of love for Elvis even though he was a remarkably talented musician. I know I sound old saying that, but seriously, he wasn’t called the King for nuthin’.

What an interesting way to celebrate his legacy: bad covers! I love it.
“In the Ghetto” is one of my favorites, too. Great cover from MMJ. Long live the King.
