You probably know by now that I am a sucker for a good acoustic singer songwriter. From M. Ward to Bob Dylan and John Fahey, I am certainly a fan. So it was easy for me to check out the new album from A.A. Bondy, American Hearts. You may (or may not) remember Bondy from his project at Verbena a few years back, I honestly did not.
The entire album was recorded and mixed at his barn in Palenville, NY in January 2007 and the organic, honest tones make that barn a fitting starter for this. One thing I cannot believe though is just how similar Bondy’s vocals are to another singer/songwriter I really like, Josh Rouse. It is hauntingly similar to Rouse via Under Cold Blue Stars. But, don’t get me wrong, that is a good thing. Have a listen to this song from the album, which is due out September 18 from Superphonic Records.
