Last year, when I got wind of the solo project from Albert Hammond Jr., best known for his role in The Strokes, I was skeptical. What would stop this from being just another attempt to capitalize on the success of his band with his now familiar name attached to a solo record of experimental and otherwise uninteresting music.
Boy was I wrong. The debut record, Yours To Keep, was great, and while at times it did feel like I was listening to a Strokes record, overall the sunny power pop was the perfect beginning for Hammond Jr’s solo career. And now, when I was instead expecting a new album from The Strokes, we get another solo effort from Hammond Jr. And if this first song is any indication, it is gonna really be great.
The first tune is titled “Gfc” and it is a part of his sophomore solo record, ¿Cómo Te Llama?, which is due to hit store shelves on July 8th. Enjoy and let me know what you think!
