One of the more loaded questions Ive been asked lately was, “Do you like Ani DiFranco?”
It seems simple enough but the answer I give can quickly paint me into a unavoidable corner.
Ive been all over the map when it comes to Ani’s music, sometimes its just what I need and other times I cant make it through the first two songs on an album. The funny thing is that throughout her storied career the way she makes music hasnt varied greatly.
Her new album, “Reprieve” is something her die hard fans will cheer about for sure. The Katrina tradgedy is part of the emotion behind this album and Ani’s New Orleans roots certainly enable her to share from a first hand base of knowledge.
Still, I push back when the politics become the centerpiece and at times Ani does that, “Reprieve” not being an exception. So, id say im walking a tightrope on “Reprieve” so far, below are two tracks from the upcoming album, due out August 8 on Ani’s label, Righteous Babe.

If you like Ani DiFranco, you’ll LOVE Abigail Kiser. She’s a new young artist from Chantilly, Virginia, who’s just been signed to my indie label, New Indie Artists. She writes her own music and poems, plays guitar, and sings. She’s an 18 year old beatnik queen, and you’ll love her stuff.
