The blogosphere has been hot and heavy for these guys over the past month or so, and its hard to disagree. I thought I was a little too late to the party and then realized the album doesnt even drop till next Tuesday, Oct 17th! (though the digital fans can get it now on ITunes)
Annuals make the type of anthemic indie rock I really get hooked on quick. Not only are these North Carolina kids getting incredible blog buzz, but the contingent over at the Fork are “all up ons” as well. I wont play the comparison game with these guys, since they weave in and out of their influences, but I will say that I think I was most impressed when I found myself banging my hand on the steering wheel during Dry Clothes yesterday along with the drumbeat.
Hows that for a convincing review! You too could be pounding your mits to the beat next Tuesday. And big ups to Ace Fu! Great year for them with Devotchka, Annuals, and of course steady Eddies, Pinback.
