Off the strength of their sophomore album, Cease To Begin, Band Of Horses hit the road earlier this week, and of course are hitting the Midwest hard on this tour especially this weekend. As mentioned previously, BOH are on tour with another ENS favorite, Cass McCombs, whos most recent release on Domino records, Dropping The Writ, was nothing short of excellent.

And tomorrow night in Louisville, not only will Band Of Horses and Cass play for the sold out crowd at Headliners Music Hall, but we will also be treated to music from VHS or Beta, Tyler Ramsey, Catfish Haven and more. It is all a part of the Halfway To Forecastle event, which we clued you into a while back as well.

And then Sunday night, BOH and Cass head north a bit to play our fair city at the Southgate House, to yet another sold out crowd. To say that these guys do well in the south and midwest is an understatement.

About

Joe started ENS in 2003 after most people he wanted to talk to about music were worn thin by his ramblings. The outlet this site provided helped out, and somehow is still going 9 years later. After a four year stint as a WOXY DJ, Joe returned to Cincinnati and continues to pioneer ENS. In addition to the overall look and feel of the site, Joe provides regular reviews, and kinda makes sure this whole thing stays afloat.

Caught this bill in PA last night. My advice to those with tix to future shows: prepare to be hugely disappointed by Cass McCombs and his band. They were offensively bad; total amateur-hour sound lacking in instrumental facility and musical creativity. The sidewalk outside the venue got real crowded about two songs into their set as people headed outside into the 20-degree weather to escape them. As for BOH, they were pretty faithful to their recordings — only louder. Certainly not bad, but not fantastic either. If you enjoy their records you will most likely enjoy their live show.

Sorry to hear that about Cass, the latest album is great. Ive seen BOH twice off the last record, I kinda know what to expect there.
