I have always been a big fan of quality singer songwriters, and have championed quite a few here on Each Note Secure through the years. And despite my early skepticism about Bon Iver due to the hype beginning to swirl around him after CMJ, it appears, at least to me, that he is worth the attention.
I ran across this song from Bon Iver (pronounced: bohn eevair; French for “good winter” and spelled wrong on purpose) recently and it was one of those tunes that really struck me the first time through. It has that sensitive and urgent quality to it, and while simple in nature, grabs the listener and demands full attention. The song I speak of is Skinny Love, and it appears on the debut album from Bon Iver, For Emma, Forever Ago, which was self released by Justin Vernon (Bon Iver’s real name) earlier this year.
The good news for Justin today is that Jagjaguwar Records has announced they are signing him to a deal to give For Emma, Forever Ago a proper release in early 2008.
Until that time, download this excellent song, “Skinny Love” below.
