The Mountain Goats are certainly not a new band, and many others have discovered and even adored thier work well before I got ahold of it. However, Ive come to really enjoy them this year, especially The Sunset Tree. What a brilliant album. And certainly worthy of my top 5 of ‘o5 grouping to your right.

I like what The New Yorker had to say about John Darnielle’s songwriting style earlier this year…. “His songs, insistent and stuffed with words, are like late-night pay-phone calls from a lover determined to complete a thought before the quarter runs out—even when the thought is about vegetables. (Darnielle is a vegetarian.)”

So true, anyway, Im sure there are lots of Mountain Goats tracks floating around out there, Ill provide a few for you to wet your appetite, then I highly recommend you grab The Sunset Tree and add it to your own best of list. Also, i’ll point you in the direction of a huge MG fan over at Largehearted Boy…..
