Brooklyn-based rock outfit The Dig has been touring the country for the last few years, winning over fans at each stop with fun, energetic live shows. Their debut album, Electric Toys, came out in June. This Saturday, they’re playing on BB Riverboats’ Belle of Cincinnati as part of River_DMF. Each Note Secure’s MaryKate Moran recently talked with Jamie Alegre, the band’s drummer, about recording without a label, a tour van break-in and more.

There must be something to this Beardo thing. Last year when I wrote about the house party turned music festival I had no idea if I would even be allowed to attend. I’m clean shaven. I have no beard. I don a Northside mustache on occasion, but will that enough? Upon arrival I found myself submerged in a community of artists, musicians, city folk, country folk, and beardos of all ages who welcomed me with open arms.

Wednesday’s show at the Southgate House was a study in extremes. The music was “extreme,” yes, but it wasn’t just that. Both Japanese psychedelic-drone-metal band Boris and Chicago post-rock trio Russian Circles share an obvious affinity for powerful drums and towering stacks of vintage guitar amplifiers. However both of the groups, especially the headliner, demanded a lot of perseverance from the audience with their drastic shifts in tempo and mood.

Spoon stopped by the Madison Theater in Covington on Tuesday night on the heels of Lollapalooza, a solid performance with The Roots on Jimmy Fallon (watch the video here) and a handful of tour dates with some band called Arcade Fire. It was their first time in Cincinnati since they played Bogart’s back in 2008.

According to an update to Patrick Keeler’s Facebook page, famed Cincinnati garage rockers The Greenhornes will be reuniting for a short run of shows starting later this month.

Great news today from our friends Pomegranates, who are getting their new album ready for release. The Cincinnati boys are ready to share a new song today from the record, which is not due out until October 26th.

Team ENS just saw Spoon at Forecastle a few weeks ago (check out my review here), but that’s not stopping us from seeing Spoon again when they come to Madison Theater tonight.
