Ready to feel old? Shonen Knife are celebrating their thirtieth anniversary as a band this year. Boom. Do you see what just happened? A band that your dad would shake his head at with bewilderment and call “weirdo young kid punk” if he heard one chorus of it is thirty.

Our friends The Seedy Seeds are always up to something, and usually that something is creating some new musical art for our enjoyment. Today is no exception, as the Seeds have been hard at work on the latest video in their growing library. This time around, it’s a …

The War on Drugs are from Philadelphia and make dreamy psychedelic Americana. Current indie sensation Kurt Vile was a member for a time. But more importantly, they’ve just released an awesome album (possibly one of the best of 2011), Slave Ambient, and are touring behind it.

A couple months ago, we helped let the cat outta the bag in regards to Sebadoh coming to Cincinnati. Let’s just say the response from Sebadoh fans was huge. You guys were really excited to hear the news of the legendary band coming to town so I have a feeling this news will be equally, or maybe more exciting.

We have been fans of the indie poppers Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin since we first heard them back in 2005. The Springfield, Missouri based four-piece has had a really consistent string of records since the start, and I always find myself gravitating towards several songs on every one of their releases. The new album, available in stores today, is no exception.

Once again, it’s time to vote for the best music in Cincinnati. This year, the nominees are great, as usual, and I have to say, I’m really conflicted about the vote more than I usually am. For me, the toughest choices will be for Alt/ Indie, Folk and Best New Artist, so many deserving choices. City Beat listed all the nominees and we have them listed for you below as well. Voting is open now and the CEA’s will be handed out on November 20th at the Madison Theatre in Covington.

For years, the MidPoint Music Festival has been the best city festival in the midwest. And when it comes to a full on city festival, it’s only natural to takes cues from the ‘grandaddy’ of them all, SXSW. MidPoint has taken a tip here and there from the Austin, Texas based beast, and so when I was approached with the idea of doing a proper day party this year for MidPoint, I jumped at the chance. For those familiar with the concept, a day party basically extends the life of a festival, taking it from all evening showcases to mid afternoon showcases as well.
