We are still having a bit of a MusicNOW hangover and some of our coverage is still rolling in. Today, we have a video of Justin Vernon and St. Vincent performing on the final night of this years festival.

MusicNOW 2010 wrapped up last night to another sold out crowd at Memorial Hall in Cincinnati. The night was certainly one to remember and afterwards, quite a few people told me it was their favorite MusicNOW concert in it’s five year history. While I’m not quite ready to agree yet, (memories of Sufjan, Kronos, Grizzly Bear and Andrew Bird come to mind) it might end up going down as the best, and even if it does not, it was an amazing night of music.

When artists like Arcade Fire, Tom Waits, TV on the Radio, Fiest, Bon Iver, LCD Soundsystem, David Byrne, and Sinead O’Connor all seek out the same brass and woodwind musician to play on their records and with their bands, it’s pretty safe to assume that musician’s on to something. Such is the case with Colin Stetson, a Michigan-born, New York City transplant who writes and performs transfixing music with clarinet, saxophone, french horn, cornet, and other instruments.

The second day of MusicNOW traditionally means that the festival is hitting its stride. The organizers stress levels are down and everyone just feels at home and in a good groove. Last night was no exception as yet another batch of great musicians took the stage at Memorial Hall in Cincinnati.

The New York-based ensemble known as yMusic may have roots in classical music, but their music tends to defy genres. The six core members – co founder Rob Moose, co founder CJ Camerieri, Hideaki Aomori, Alex Sopp, Nadia Sirota and Mike Block – attended Julliard, with the exception of Moose, who graduated from the Manhattan School of Music. The musicians went their separate ways after graduation, playing in various ensembles, orchestras and even rock bands, but their paths frequently crossed. yMusic was formed in 2008.

First off, you should know that there are still some tickets available for tonight at Memorial Hall, so if you have been siting back and waiting to grab a few, wait no longer because just like last night and tomorrow night, it will sell out.

Last night marked the opening of the MusicNOW festival here in Cincinnati. I get to say “here” because an event like this is so important to me, I returned home to attend it. MusicNOW is offically a tradition now, bringing together a rich collection of artists and fans at Memorial Hall for the past five years. And to kick things off this year, Bryce Dessner brought together what was arguable the best opening night in the festivals history.

The time has come. MusicNOW is back in Cincinnati and suddenly, all is right with the world. For it’s fifth act, the MusicNOW festival is prepared to bring you its best lineup to date this year, and ENS plans to be there every step of the way to enjoy and to document the festivities again this year.

MusicNOW 2010 is a little more than a month away, and the anticipation for the event continues to grow. We already know about the excellent three night lineup with Joanna Newsom, St. Vincent and Justin Vernon. But now, we get yet another gem to add to the mix.
