It’s time for more new music and pop-culture nonsense with the Milling About crew! There’s a bunch of fun tracks this time around, and they’re all available for download here at ENS.

Ken, Mandy and the Peanut Gallery (Ben, MaryKate and Sarah) sound off on the MusicNOW festival and how it’s oddly tied to the Twilight franchise, like seemingly everything else nowadays. They share favorite moments and Mandy and MaryKate have an uncannily-timed freakout at the mere suggestion of Andy Samberg being nearby.

Ken’s discovered that, now that he’s off his post-mugging-beatdown medication, the best way to recover is with Twin Peaks marathons. We’re not sure this is doctor-sanctioned, but anyway, they discuss the beloved show, and Mandy reveals that the young Kyle MacLachlan and his solid, cartoon-Mountie chin is the real reason why she watches. By the way, if anyone wants to rock out to the theme to Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, we’ve got our copy of Pure Moods right here.

Speaking of Pure Moods, hope you’re ready for some New Age jams, ‘cause this podcast is chock-full of them. Okay, that’s a lie. Scared you, huh? But there is something for everyone. Proclaim to the world that you are indeed not a robot with an enchanting, swelling track from Marina and the Diamonds called, appropriately enough, “I Am Not a Robot.” Chillax to Twin Sister’s “I Want a House,” which channels a swanky lounge vibe for a solid two minutes or more. Then, shake it all off to get lost in the beeping, electronic fuzz of “Baptism” by Crystal Castles and dance with a smile on your face to Deloran’s “Stay Close.”

And what would Milling About be without a call from Joshua? Your first thought upon seeing a bear roaming your suburban sidewalk might be to call the proper authorities, or perhaps to grab your camera for some hilarious footage for the evening news (seriously, what’s with all the funny bear videos on the local news?), but not Joshua. No sir.

All that and more! Oh yeah, and if you were wondering what an episode of Milling About would sound like as a remix created in the midst of a fever dream, we’ve got your answer (but why were you wondering that?).

Your favorite shows might be going on hiatus, but not Milling About! Ken and Mandy are back, and this time they’ve got an impeccable set from singer-songwriter Tristen, live in the Milling About Studio! One guess as to where you can download these exclusive tracks – that’s right, here at ENS.
In this episode:

A studio session with Nashville-based Tristen provides an intimate glimpse at her already intimate songs. These songs tell stories so effortlessly that you can’t help but ponder over the lyrics, hear the punch that’s being packed into such a small space and realize that this isn’t effortless – Tristen’s just that good. Listen to “Save Raina” and hear what we mean. On top of that, she’s got a unique, compelling voice. If you looked up “unvarnished” in the dictionary, you’d see a picture of these songs. Not sure how that would work, but it’s still true.

Between these acoustic tracks we catch up with the crew! Since we last visited Ken, Mandy and the Peanut Gallery (this time around it’s Ben, a very quiet Sarah and Each Note Secure’s own MaryKate) they’ve been busy jet setting to the county’s metropolises and having their mom drop them off at brain-washing tents in Nowheresville, Illinois. Ben’s earned clout of car-shipping proportions but, even cooler, he hung out in the hotel from Ghostbusters. Ken’s been rubbing elbows with fashion royalty and literally lying in the gutter. And he met Ashley Olsen. Guess which one of those two places he was in when that happened! And on that note, what works better for cheek bones: rouge or action-hero-like facial cuts? Discuss. Also on that note, Mandy’s been busy playing nurse and working on music, which we can’t wait to hear. And have you heard of Toy Band? They’re big in Kansas City.

Along with the top-notch studio session, Ben and Yusef have an interview with Tristen. She clues us in to the joys of Holly House, a musical collective in Nashville, and the three discuss the do-it-yourself ethic in music these days. FYI, don’t send out a mass Facebook message in hopes of making your band famous. It’s not going to work.

It’s a real thrill to introduce you to a brand new podcast today. The show is the brainchild of C. Trent Rosecrans of CNATI.com and myself and will focus on music and sports. Trent and I both feel like sports and music are talked about enough already, but the two things are rarely paired together. So the “Can Of Corn” podcast is a way for us to chat about those things, and if this first episode is any indication, it’s going to be alot of fun.

In this episode, “Dude Throws 100″ we talk about the first couple of weeks of the season from the Cincinnati Reds, this weekends NFL Draft and what the Bengals might do, Record Store Day 2010 and also ask a question that we need your help answering. Ken and guest host Corrie cover the wide spectrum of human interaction, from the high-brow New York art world to nerdy internet message boards. They also lead us through health care f-bombs, Facebook’s ability to spread disease and the importance of spellchecking your tattoos before going under the needle.

But first, grab your dancing shoes for this latest crop of new music. There’s a bubbly “disco-funk” track from Breakbot, “Baby, I’m Yours,” which Ken loves so much that it breaks his brain. There’s also the up the stairs, down the stairs laid-back ease of “Marchin In,” a warm Electro-pop song by Low-Fi Fnk. “Subliminal Message” by Happy Birthday is a love song wrapped in soft Psychedelic Pop. There’s even a track from Standard Fare flat-out called “Dancing,” with confessional lyrics that admit that, sometimes, the only thing left to do is boogie down.

And speaking of music, the peanut gallery (Ben, Yusef and Chris), just back from South by Southwest, breaks down the haves and have-not dichotomy of the festival. They also relay Friday night at SXSW, including the lead singer of Fall Out Boy’s awkward attempt to not be the lead singer of Fall Out Boy, Cincinnati band Foxy Shazam’s literal appetite for cigarettes when opening for Hole, and Courtney Love stagediving. And it’s also where this episode of the podcast gets its title. Who knew you could see Hole live and Courtney Love wouldn’t even be the most ridiculous celebrity in the room?

Ken and special guest Justine Ludwig, Curatorial Assistant for Cincinnati’s Contemporary Arts Center, have just returned from New York, and give the lowdown on several openings, including some performance art that’s either romantic or kinky depending on your sensibilities.

Plus, everyone can’t help but lament the loss of WOXY and Yusef explains that, if it wasn’t for the radio station, we wouldn’t have You, You’re Awesome. Take a listen to find out what he means!

We don’t know either, but you’re going to want to figure it out for all the great music on this episode.” Don’t blame us if “Bourgeois Shangri-La” by Miss Li causes you to break into a spontaneous dance, musical-style, as you’re walking down the street. And there’s the toe-tapping, head-scratching “Oh! Centra” by Javelin, which might have the most laid back use of a chipmunked voice in the history of music. There’s also a new song from Jonsi, and while it’s a break from his day job the lead singer for Sigur Ros, “Go Do” has the same fantastic, driving sense of wonder found in the Icelandic band’s songs. But first up is the tender “This Sweet Love” from James Yuill, who takes the solo singer-songwriter mold and manages to actually make it interesting.

But what goes on in between the great new tunes? For starters, Ken and Mandy measure Oscar picture nominees on a scale of Lifetime Network awfulness to Hallmark movie tolerability while peanut gallery members Ben and Yusef choke down some past-its-prime Christmas candy. It all makes for plenty of “That’s what she said” moments. Plus, Mandy interviews new city councilwoman/original member of Phoenix Laurie Quinlivan, who gives us the lowdown on why the city didn’t get a hefty grant from the federal government for the Cincinnati streetcar. What businesses and chambers of commerce are behind the plan? Listen to find out. Doesn’t sound like you’ll be able to take the streetcar to Paul Brown Stadium any time soon, hint tint.

Also, there’s sexual tension at a goth bar in Orlando, and awesomely dressed listener Joshua calls the Milling About hotline to get their take. Or maybe he was just drunk dialing.
