When post-punkers Hot Snakes disbanded in 2005, many a fan thirsting for rock rhythms and burst of guitar-based energy were left longing. Rick Froberg, guitarist and lead singer of the Snakes, has re-emerged fronting a new band, with a not so new sound. Obits, now based in New York and signed to one of the preeminent indie labels in the U.S., SubPop, has released a record, entitled I Blame You, that will no doubt suffice the thirst of Hot Snakes fans, and also gather some more along the way. For fans of last year’s Gutter Twins effort, this will no doubt be another heavy rocker to add to the catalog.
Obits plays a record-release show tonight at the Southgate House alongside ENS favorites, Bear Hands. This show ought to rock your faces off, and certainly will offer some face-melting guitar action, so don’t miss it.
