I had some serious doubts about this show. First Alchemize closed and I heard nothing about it for a long time. I wondered not only if the fans would find out but also if the bands knew what was going on. Then Nick pulled out the announcement that the show would be at The Loft in Covington. Fine by me I thought, should be a great night.
Then, as quickly as it changed the first time, the winds of change blew again and I got an email from Nick at about 6pm last night saying that the show was being moved again! The final landing place for the show was the Ryhthm and Blues Club on Main St. in downtown Cincy. When I arrived the bands were doing a late sound check and a handful of people were hustling around to get this thing going.
Nick was one of them and we chatted briefly. He mentioned that The Loft had some sound issues that they were not aware of until it was very late in the game. But he, like I, wanted this show to fly badly so after some scrambling it came back downtown. Not long afterwards it was time to get underway.

Cold War Kids played about as tight and energetic of a set as I have seen with such a lackadasical, small crowd. Because of all the venues madness the amount of people simply wasnt enough to match what CWK were doing onstage. Still, they were impressive, and even started off with my personal favorite “We Used to Vacation.” I can only imagine the set these guys would play to a crowd of 100-150 or more.

Sound Team came up next and while Id seen them previously, I had really dug into “Movie Monster” much more since. So the material was more familiar and therefore, more enjoyable. The Texas team saw a slightly larger crowd wander in and despite a few technical issues they made the most of their time on stage. “Your Eyes are Liars” and “TV Torso” were highlights for me, face melters indeed. Overall it was a great night, and Im glad that it worked out in the end. And while I am not a fan of Main Street, RBCs worked out much better than I anticipated. Of course, im still hoping that Alchemize, or whatever its new name will be, lands in Covington. I hope any issues can be worked out and that can happen.

the show was a really good time given all the pre-show venue choas and how few people actually showed. everyone i spoke to seemed to really enjoy it and felt that seeing a couple of bands of this caliber in such an intimate setting was something special. hell, that bar usually has shitty ass cover bands sucking up the joint. i have to say it was weird to see “Grandma” from Alchemize taking money at the door though.
