It has been a great year for the independent Brooklyn based label Daptone Records. With excellent releases from The Budos Band and Sharon Jones this year, Daptone has not only continued to build on their success, but has also crossed over to new audiences this year with the success of their artists. And now a great sampler to put the icing on the cake for their 2007 campaign.

The sampler is a two disc affair and is the 19th installment in the Scion Sampler Series. (Scion has previously done remixed discs for Vice Records and Strictly Rhythm) It is out on the Scion Audio Visual Record label and takes some really great Daptone tunes and gives them the remix treatment on the first disc. Songs like Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings “Keep On Looking” gets remixed by Kenny Dope, The Sugarman Three & Co.’s Bosco’s Blues get a Bull Jun Remix and features Large Professor and The Budos Band’s Chicago Falcon gets remixed by The Washington Sq. Lads and Mark Ronson and features hip hopper Wale.

The first disc is 9 remixes and the second disc has the nine originals. I am being told that this will be available at offline Scion sponsored events, and online at mp3 sites like Emusic.
