You know how when you have a tradition, like getting together with family or observing a holiday with friends. And that tradition is interrupted, it leaves a void. That’s how I felt last year when the Forecastle Festival went on hiatus. I had been the previous three years and was really starting to feel like it was a great midwest summer tradition that just seemed to keep on getting better. Well last year the festival took a year off to ‘dream it up all over again.’ They didn’t say that, but it kinda makes sense. Because the return of the ship to the Louisville Waterfront in 2012 feels like the return of a favorite tradition, but that tradition is back bigger and better than ever.
By now you are likely familiar with the Forecastle lineup, and with the festival less than a week away, we thought it was high time that we gave it a proper preview here. So here goes.
ENS Picks Forecastle Friday:
Friday night at Forecastle is the night you wanna get acclimated with everything, and get the weekend started off right. You don’t wanna over do it, because things are just getting started, but most of us do anyway.
The Head & The Heart
Dean Wareham plays Galaxie 500
ENS Picks Forecastle Saturday:
Did you overdo it last night? Who cares if you did, because Saturday is worth shaking off the night and heading back to the grounds for a full day of music.
Justin Townes Earl
James Vincent McMorrow
Daniel Martin Moore
My Morning Jacket
ENS Picks Forecastle Sunday:
It’s the last day of the festival and if you aren’t totally wiped out, you gotta be on hand for a great final day. Yes, they do save some of the best stuff for last, just to make sure you plan to stick around, and this lineup is no exception.
