Getting unsigned bands a record deal

Sellaband
This has to be one of the more interesting ideas ive seen on the web in awhile. Sellaband, based in Amsterdam, is offering music fans the opportunity to invest in their favorite unsigned bands at the rate of 10$ a pop. Once a bands account reaches 50k, the band gets a deal. Lots of stuff I still dont know about this, but its worth checking out.

Investors will get a free copy of the CD, a cut of any CD sales and a share in the advertising revenue generated for the site, www.sellaband.com. Sellaband keeps 40 percent of any music publishing revenue, but none of the recording proceeds.

Whatcha think? Could this work?

I’m not sure it’ll work.
Check out what I had to say:

Well, to me one of the biggest issues is that huge dollar amount bands have to hit. I think it would be better to raise the money yourself and keep all the profits.

Ya that’s exactly it. Furthermore if a band can raise this kind of money alone, wht use sellaband to begin with.
