WOXY
As we mentioned yesterday, our beloved WOXY.com has been rescued yet again. Two years ago some “angels” came along silently and saved WOXY to make it an internet radio station for the past two years, this go round has been different though. Bill Nguyen of Lala.com has taken on the “white knight” role and has been anything but private about his intentions.

From his initial post on the WOXY boards all the way to his appearance at a local Hofbrauhaus last night to celebrate and announce that indeed, WOXY is back. The 35 year old entrepenuer from Silicon Valley says he like to “dive right in” when approaching a new business, and he is doing that with woxy.com.

Last week I spoke with Mike Taylor, a jock from WOXY over beers and he gave me the inside scoop on Bill and his aggressive approach in saving the station. Bill made that message board post less than a week ago and in the time that has passed he managed to contact all the WOXY boys, fly to Cincinnati, hammer out a deal and make sure the previous investors were covered, and find a cure for cancer as well, if you read the giddy members of the WOXY message boards. Bill Nguyen is now a legend to be told in WOXY tales for years to come, the man can do no wrong at this point in the eyes of the listener.

So, what does the future hold for our proverbial phoenix rising from the ashes? Well, from what I understand, “WOXY on steriods” is probably what to expect. Not only will WOXY be heavily integrated into Bills existing business at lala.com, but it will also likely be beefing up the web content as well. Its possible we may see WOXY become a cross between amazing independant radio and Pitchfork. But probably 80% less snarky.

I think WOXY will be what it never could be in the past. And it will be due to the funding Mr. Nguyen brings. The station should be back on the air in less than two weeks, here is the official word from Bill last night on the WOXY boards.

Over the last week, I’ve seen the best parts of community online. While many websites describe themselves as a community, they’re no more than a bulletin board for folks to catch up. It doesn’t matter if it’s called GeoCities or MySpace, it’s just a big email account.

WOXY is dramatically different. Started by Doug and Linda and carried on the airwaves for more than two decades, WOXY became a place where people built memories and shared experiences through music.

While WOXY is broadcasted across the Internet to far reaching places, it always carries a bit of Cincinnati, OH and the incredible kind spirit of the people here. They’re independent and believe that music is more than just some form of content but it’s a part of their culture and their lives.

Over the next year, I’ll work to tell music fans across the States and the globe that independent music started in Oxford, OH and it foster in your city through WOXY.com. The music scene in San Francisco during the 60’s changed a generation and believe that what’s happening at WOXY could turn the tide of ‘one size fits all’ music.

What was started in Ohio may change music forever and define it’s future.

We’ll be providing some ideas for how you can help WOXY later this week and next week will be an amazing moment for WOXY and the future of Rock and Roll.

More than ever, I feel incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue the tradition you’ve built.

BAM….

It was so amazing to hear Bill talk last night. He is so full of enthusiasm about WOXY and everything in general. There are a few scattered sceptics out there voicing their opinions, basically wishing that it could be the way it was on FM, but that will never happpen. If they couls have been there last night, I’m certain their minds would be changed, or at least put at ease. Look for a big media push in the next few days – and I’m quoting Bill Nguyen here, “CNN, ABC and NBC”.

    WOXY Returns (again)?

Anyone with an internet connection and a jones for indie music has probably made their way over to WOXY.com, home of the once-alive but soon-defunct internet radio station. It looks like they may have found an investor and they’ve published…
