J Roddy Walston - American Princes - Seabird Live @ Alchemize

Last night three bands got together for a show here in Cincinnati at Alchemize. Id venture to guess that a great deal of those in attendance were not familiar with more than one of the bands, and not one in particular. But id also venture to guess that those who took all three in will not soon forget the bands or the evening.

On a cold rainy weeknight in Cincinnati you truly never are sure what you are gonna get. But last night Id say lots of us felt fortunate. A good turnout and a slew of good tunes left me smiling at nights end.

First up on stage was local boys Seabird and Ive already had a few people tell me that they felt Seabird stole the show. The 4 piece brought the brit-pop esque sound out of its cage and it truly smacked a few of us upside the head, of course in a good way.

After that the guys from American Princes played a very rock n roll set of thier own. The Arkansas quartet made the most of the great aucoustics in Alchemize and Im sure pocketed a few new fans in the process.

J Roddy headlined the night and effectively shook up the entire night. If you havent seen these guys you really are missing out. The band is not so easy to describe but J Roddy manages to channel Jerry Lee Lewis, Gram Parsons, and something truly unique that defies a description. The band played a roaring set that had folks dancing and hollering for more, hope these guys are back through town soon.

And from a promoters perspective, something Im not used to, everyone could not have been nicer. Nick and the Alchemize crew, all three bands and big thanks to my bro Jon for helping push this thing…..
