There are lots of “blog bands” out there these days. Im not sure what the exact definition of that term is other than that a band is getting alot of writeups on blogs. Well, one band that has not received any blog love from what I can gather but is every bit as qualified as the likes of Cold War Kids or Tapes n Tapes is J Roddy Walston and the Business.
But, this is not the comparision game we are playing because they really sound nothing like the aformentioned bands. These guys weave in and out of ragtime, punk, and americana seamlessly, with a strong edge of well thought out lyrics. And honestly, Im kinda of the opinion that without seeing them live you are only getting part of the package. The energy they exhibit onstage is quite amazing to say the least.

Nov 12, 2008To say that these guys live are 10x better than the record would be an understatement. The record is very enjoyable dont get me wrong, but what I saw from them at ottobar this past weekend is what I would call a near perfect performance.

I have been lucky enough to get hold of a whole bunch of tracks by J-Roddy Walston and the Business and have been listening to them non-stop for the past couple of days. The material is amazing, it seems a shame that it is bound to be a while before they make it over the UK so that I can check out the live experience.
