About 100 folks or so were treated to a solo act from Grandaddy’s Jason Lytle Saturday night. Jason was in town to play a art and music benefit for a dear friends son who suffers from Cerebral Palsey, Emmett. The night started with a silent auction with many great pieces of art as well as signed copies of lots of great albums. Artists like M Ward, Coldplay, Rilo Kiley and Bright Eyes all contributed to the cause. One of the items below is a humorously defaced Grandaddy poster Jason had his way with.
Later in the evening Jason began his set. Looking a bit lonesome and out of his element on stage alone with only his guitar he ran through some Grandaddy favorites like Hewletts Daughter and Summer Here Kids as well as some new tunes from Just Like the Fambly Cat like Jeez Louise and Elevate Myself. It was quite a unique show and I felt priveleged to be in attendance. After the set I spoke with Jason briefly and thanked him for the set and his musical influence in general. I said I hoped this wasnt the last we would see of him, he shrugged and said, “who knows”? Lets hope there is some more music left in the sad, gooey songwriter that is Jason Lytle.
