You know I gotta give this one some love. As a big fan of all things Wilco and also of Bob Dylan, when I heard that Jeff was going to cover a Dylan tune for the upcoming soundtrack to the I’m Not There Dylan biopic, I got pretty excited. And sadly, lots of times these moments of excitement are followed by dissapointment, but not this time.

I really like Jeff’s take on Simple Twist Of Fate, he even has some vocal similarities to Robby Z on this tune, (don’t laugh I know what you are thinking, and yes, it is audible.) I’m sure it was a thrill for Jeff, he has been a Dylan fan for a long time, and of course many remember the Wilco tune, “Bob Dylan’s 49th Beard.” Enjoy some video of Jeff doing that tune from the I Am Trying To Break Your Heart Bonus DVD.

So enjoy this one from Jeff Tweedy, and to hear more songs off the soundtrack, hit up the official MySpace page for the soundtrack here.

About

Joe started ENS in 2003 after most people he wanted to talk to about music were worn thin by his ramblings. The outlet this site provided helped out, and somehow is still going 9 years later. After a four year stint as a WOXY DJ, Joe returned to Cincinnati and continues to pioneer ENS. In addition to the overall look and feel of the site, Joe provides regular reviews, and kinda makes sure this whole thing stays afloat.

Oh lord, gimmie a break, fanboys. Tweedy’s cover is one of the worst on the album. It sounds utterly phone in. And the songs character sound, that amazing amazing baseline, is stripped away. Face it, Tweedy is now content to make “dad music,” and he continues that here. Incredibly boring.

And that Sufyawn cover?? Disgusting. He makes it overly pretentious, and kills the passion in the original.

Now, the Cat Power, John Doe, Malkmus, Jim James, and Karen O covers I can get behind. THOSE are great.
