I quite like storytellers. When VH1 was running their storyteller series I often found myself drawn in by artists I would not have cared for otherwise. Sometimes there is something amazing about knowing the details behind a tune. Jens Lekman is a storyteller. It had been awhile since I went to a show with some good between songs banter but Jens filled this gap admirably last night at the Southgate House.
From his explanation of the song “Postcard to Nina” all the way down to his accapella tune as he replaced a broken guitar string. There was no dead air at this show, Jens seemed to have all the silence worked out and accounted for. Towards the end of the set one of the women playing alongside took 2 large black garbage bags with her to the stage. Jens explained. “We brought you all Christmas gifts.” “Actually, we didnt know if you would love us or throw bottles at us so I wasnt sure we would need these, but now Im in love with you so here you go.” Multicolored balloons spilled out into the crowd as Jens launched into his hit, “You Are The Light”.

Overall, another great night of music. Here are some photos from last night.
