Keep An Eye On Dead Confederate

A brand new band is making some waves from their home in Augusta, Georgia of late. These guys however are not your run of the mill southern indie rockers, at least in my opinion. They are being tagged as the next in a line of bands that includes My Morning Jacket and Band of Horses, which is some great company.

And although I can see where those comparisons come from, as the band have some southern rock tendencies from time to time, I think there is something darker and maybe even harsher about the debut from Dead Confederate. The brooding sound that builds on the tune, The Rat, is reminiscent of a early 90’s grunge rock song almost, with southern flavor, and that sounds seeps through to me on much of their self titled debut EP.

These guys are easily one of the more interesting bands I will be watching in the new year. The band recently signed with Razor & Tie and TAO Records. Their self titled EP is available right now on ITunes and they have a full length in the works for early in the new year. Here is a cut from the EP for you to sample, titled, “Get Out.”
