Today we focus in on the local label Tiberius Records. My thanks to Mike for the responses….
ENS - How long has Tiberius been in existence?
Tiberius - Tiberius has been around for almost ten years now.
ENS - How did Tiberius get started and who were the founders?
Tiberius - Tiberius was originally started to serve as a vehicle for thistle releases and any other projects we felt like working on. it was started by Rick Mccarty, Mike Montgomery and Toby Weiss.
ENS - Whats the story behind the name of the label?
Tiberius - I suppose it’s like most things that multiple people have to decide on, you just toss names around until you find one that everyone can live with. I wanted to call it relic records, and didn’t realize that that was already taken. There’s actually an old Thistle record that has both names on it. We caught the mistake midway through production and had the plant make the change. The disc itself says Relic, but the spine and insert say Tiberius.
ENS- How many people have a hand in running the label?
Tiberius - 3 people currently run things.
ENS - How many bands are currently on the label and what has been your top
selling release ever?
Tiberius - Eight bands, and i’d have to do some research for the other question. Probably Thistle’s “Tired Anchor” album.
ENS - How has the music scene changed in Cincinnati since you started?
Tiberius - There were a lot of good bands, then it got pretty sparse for awhile, now there are a ton of great bands again.
ENS - What is the ulitmate goal of the label?
Tiberius - I Guess there is no end goal. We’ll just keeping pushing ahead until we’re sick of doing it. So far it’s all been a blast.
ENS - What bands on Tiberius have upcoming releases you are excited about?
Tiberius - Thistle, Light Wires, Sinks of Gandy, and possibly a few others.
MP3s -
Sinks of Gandy - Thought We’d Start
The Light Wires - Small As Strawberries
Thistle - Horns and Cavalry
