Nashvillle is on the indie rock rise again. Lylas is the newest to be showcased. Read and hear the details below…..
Based out of Nashville, Lylas unique instrumentation includes pedal steel, Theremin, piano, cello, glockenspiel, accordion and just a touch of banjo which builds simple arrangements for the macabre, folk inflected pop originals of singer-guitarist Kyle Hamlett, whose dedicated melodies and thematic lyrics suggest the soundtrack to a musical written by Morrissey and performed by Belle and Sebastian. Nonetheless, the music of Lylas is rooted in a tradition of songwriting local to middle-Tennessee – dark narratives replete with Siamese twins, summer sweaters and no shortage of death.
Lessons for Lovers is the Lylas’ first full length album following a handful of 7â€s and an E.P. The record was produced and recorded by Loney Hutchins (member of Bobby Bare Jr.’s band) over the course of a year.
Lylas combines delicate skewed pop and a distinctly American aesthetic with some of the quirkier sensibilities of baroque songs of yore. Emphasizing lyrics and nimble melodies, the band’s tasteful accents are subtle and punchy, infusing thoughtful compositions with an underhand rendered bite.
