Midpoint To Get A City Beat Makeover

Filed in Cincinnati, Coming To Cincinnati and Music News 3 comments

Exciting news here in Cincinnati as the announcement has come down that City Beat will be taking the reigns of the Midpoint Music Festival. As a big fan of local music, Cincinnati and City Beat, this seems like the perfect fit to take Midpoint to the next level.

I wrote a lengthy article last fall about Midpoint, the gist of which was that I loved the idea of our very own music festival to celebrate the city, great music and our culture in general. I mostly complained though, about how I felt it was digressing every year and had mostly lost the plot. Now, I’m pretty certain nobody at Citybeat is using that post with these changes in mind. But I am excited that some of the things could happen.

Midpoint will be better this year, and the overall future of Midpoint is suddenly on the upswing and will take place on September 25-27.

Without giving away information that I probably should keep to myself, I do know that Midpoint will be bringing in some national headliners for the event this year, and will probably utilize a very different geographical landscape here in town rather than just OTR.

I’m hoping for some regional label showcases, and as always, some great local and regional bands, both signed and unsigned, which will also be new territory for Midpoint.

Also, the fun starts early this year with a launch party on April 9th at Below Zero with Cursive performing.

This is truly excellent news! I posted some gripings on the Midpoint festival when Joe posted his analysis, and cannot wait to see what Mike Breen and the CityBeat gang will make of it from here on. (Shaking the ghosts of Desdemona?!)

This city is starving for a decent indie-rock festival! I can’t wait to show my support by attending!
