It’s Wednesday and we are ready for the second day of MusicNOW 2010. First off, you should know that there are still some tickets available for tonight at Memorial Hall, so if you have been siting back and waiting to grab a few, wait no longer because just like last night and tomorrow night, it will sell out.
This evening we get another great bill starting with ymusic. This New York based collective has collaborated with a really diverse group of musicians, including Jay-Z, Bjork, The New York Philharmonic, David Byrne, and even Sufjan Stevens. This conservatory trained group should fit the MusicNOW bill perfectly. For more about ymusic, check out thier full bio and website.
And tonights headliner is the always impressive Annie Clark, better known as St. Vincent. We last caught Annie this past weekend during the Big Ears festival, and before that last summer at the Southgate House. If you have yet to see her live, well, you really don’t know what you are missing. Her on stage performance is not to be missed, I’ll pull this quote out from the last time I reviewed her show.
If you have yet to see St. Vincent live, you may be like me and expect a variety of backing vocals to make up some of the call and response sounds or mixture of vox distortions that you hear throughout the recordings. This is not the case however, as Annie herself manages to tackle both parts of the vocal mix through two separate microphones throughout her performance. Quite an impressive duplication of the recorded sound and a tip of my hat to her for being able to time it all so well, which cannot be an easy feat.
I also said that she morphs between a Disney movie pixie into a guitar rock genius, and I mean it. So don’t miss tonight at MusicNOW, if you do, you will regret it.
