My Brightest Diamond – A Thousand Shark’s Teeth

Shara Worden is the type of singer that is makes me stop in my tracks. Her voice and amazing range alone are enough to make her one of those singers I would be happy to hear sing the phone book. Lucky for me, she decides to sing way more interesting things than that, as her new album is evidence to.

The sophomore disc from Worden, who goes by My Brightest Diamond for her recordings is probably the best album from a female singer I have heard so far in 2008. She takes all the beautiful arrangements and ability that made her debut so good, and adds just enough complimentary instrumentation and energy to make this new album stand above the debut. Where the debut was sweet and innocent, A Thousand Sharks Teeth is sinister and dark, all the while showcasing Worden’s talent and progression as an artist.

I was having a conversation with friends the other day regarding this album, and we agreed that it is way more interesting than another female singer who wowed the blogosphere in 2007, St. Vincent. And no offense to her, but it is as if My Brightest Diamond has seriously raised the bar, and everyone else is now faced with the challenge of trying to keep up.

A Thousand Shark’s Teeth is out June 17th on the Asthmatic Kitty label. Enjoy this download below…..

#1 J-Love :

Definitely excited to hear her new album. She really is a wonderful talent. (and a 2007 alum of the Music NOW Festival!)
