Great news for Wilco fans yesterday, as their new album, Sky Blue Sky made it all the way up to #4 on the charts in its first week. The album has already sold 87,000 copies. It’s the Chicago-based rock group’s second top 10 album and surpasses the No. 8 entry that greeted 2004’s “A Ghost Is Born,” which sold 81,000. Nearly a quarter of its sales this week were snapped up via digital retailers.

I guess enough people heard Jeff himself reading a promotional spot (see below) for indie record stores pushing the bonus disc that you can only get at local indie stores wherever you reside (if you are lucky). The bonus disc includes two songs. One True Vine and a live version of Theologians. Another new song floating around is called “Let’s Fight”, and could very well be the anthem for the latest Tweedy sound bite. Jeff apparently responded to the recent Eagles comparisons from this review during a AOL interview saying, “Those are fighting words,”……”"Even though it’s stated in a positive manner, it seems so wildly off the mark. Did they actually listen to the record?” “Did they listen to the Eagles?” Stirratt added.

We here at ENS totally agree with Jeff, and took his advice, (about buying the record, not fighting Entertainment Weekly), not only pre-ordering a vinyl copy of the new album but also picking up said CD/DVD combo the day of the release. In addition, we are Wilco nerds and had to purchase the bonus song on ITunes, “Let’s Not Get Carried Away”, and well, some more nerdisms we won’t get into. So, check out some more Wilco rarities today to celebrate the big news from first week sales…..
