Nick Jaina’s new CD came to me through a friend of a friend posting. What I mean by that is that I posted about a band I liked, who knows Nick, or Nick knows them, not sure which. They in turn told Nick I may dig his sound as well. That band was Point Juncture, WA. I wrote about them here some time ago. And they were right, I do dig Nicks stuff.
The 7 Stations has just enough aucoustic guitar and heartfelt lyrics to make me think this is a singer/songwriter lo-fi deal. Then, suddenly the horns kick in on “Maybe Cocaine” and like a cool breeze on a hot day Im refreshed and more attentive. Dont hear me wrong either, Nick has the songwriting thing down, and it puts him in a very select group. But the music I hear throughout the songs keep me wanting more. So, I wasnt terribly surprised to see and hear the glockenspeil, triangle, bass clarinet, accordian and trombone credited in the linear notes.
Here is a sample from Nick Jaina’s The 7 Stations due out on Oct 21 from Bang Back Records.
Pre Order the disc here.
