Ive probably mentioned here before that Im not the type who will go to a concert without at least checking out the opener beforehand and usually making sure I see their set as well. There have been plenty of times when Ive done this and been rewarded with a better set of music than the headliner ended up producing.
I dont expect that tomorrow night however when I travel to Columbus, Oh to check out one of my favorite musicians Matt Ward. One of the opening acts however, Oakley Hall flashed across my radar right about the same time I noticed they were opening at tomorrows gig, so let the research begin.
Oakley Hall can bring the twang with the best of them, but dont think that acoustic s
ingin and pickin is their thing. They tend to bring tight male/female harmonies accompanied with thick fuzzy guitars with the southern rock youd expect from Neil Young in his Crazy Horse days. Here is a track from their current album, Gypsum Strings that im really enjoying.
And I suddenly feel as if Im following in the footsteps of our friends at Daytrotter of late because guess who visited them recently and guess who we are writing up today. Yes, youve got it.
