In what promises to be the best MidPoint Music Festival in it’s short history, this years lineup was rolled out in phases over the past couple of months. And now today, we get to take all of those names and match them with a venue and a set time …

The National are back. And it’s not like they really ever left. The band that grew up in Ohio but did most of their musical maturing in New York returned to the Buckeye state Monday night showcasing their latest and possibly greatest album to date, High Violet.
Our buddies from Bad Veins are out on the road again this spring, and again they find themselves out with a bunch of Scots. Earlier this year the guys were playing with We Were Promised Jetpacks, and starting this weekend they will continue their current tour with Frightened Rabbit.

It’s a real thrill to introduce you to a brand new podcast today. The show is the brainchild of C. Trent Rosecrans of CNATI.com and myself and will focus on music and sports. Trent and I both feel like sports and music are talked about enough already, but …

A little more than a month ago, SXSW was in full effect and the WOXY studios were humming. Loads of great bands came in and recorded sessions at our studios on South Congress, and most of that audio and video is still under lock and key. Since then, as most of you know, WOXY has seen its demise, and who knows if the pieces from that week of performances ever get properly picked up.

This Saturday marked the third annual Record Store Day across the globe. The day gives fans of independent music a chance to go out and plop down some money at their local independent record store of choice. I have not only been a huge fan of this occasion each year, and have gone out of my way to let you know about it, let others know and also drop a big chunk of change at my local store as well.

I remember the first time I listened to Horse Feathers. I was driving south on I-71 heading to Louisville, Kentucky and it was the kind of morning where when the sun rises, it immediately wakes you up to the day. I was awoken to Justin Ringle and his unique and soothing vocals that morning, with their second album House With No Home.

The last time we saw Blitzen Trapper, they were playing a great set over at Southgate House last fall, finishing up their support of their record Furr. Well, the guys are poised to return to the Cincinnati area again in June, and have a whole slew of new material to share when they get here.

My anticipation was unusually high leading up to Saturday’s concert at local newcomer venue the Country Club. I had never previously visited the venue, but word of mouth and an online photo gallery made it seem interesting. Nor had I heard Epstein or Juliana Barwick, other than a few intriguing mp3s posted prior to the show. Still, the small amount of mystery surrounding the event made it something to look forward to. I expected to be pleasantly surprised, and was, walking away a big fan of both artists’ music and the venue itself.

As we continue to look back at MusicNOW 2010, we have another video today to share. This might have been my favorite song in Justin Vernon’s set during the last night of the festival. It’s a cover of Tom Petty’s “Crawling Back To You” and maybe it’s just …

In a way, it’s dazzling, the amount of hot-blooded energy that comes across on an Arctic Monkeys record. And live, there’s no doubting that they’re proficient players. Their songs sound just as tight in person as they on their respective albums. But despite a delivery that sometimes borders on feverish, these Monkeys looked unaffected at last Friday’s Madison Theatre show.

It’s time for the third annual Record Store Day! Not only is this day an excuse to hit up your local independant record store of choice, but it is also a great day to get some exclusive stuff, and see some great performances. Every year it seems like things get ratcheted up a notch, and 2010 looks like it will be the best year yet.
