I think I’ve seen Of Montreal enough times to condense their live show into a basic formula for easy explanation purposes: (video backdrop x pop art projections) + (sideshow characters + quirky fashion) = Of Montreal-sponsored LSD trip at the carnival.

 Cincinnati and Coming To Cincinnati

It’s a pretty amazing weekend for live music in the Cincinnati area. Not only do you get the lineup that will be taking multiple stages downtown during the Taste Of Cincinnati, but there are quite a few bands coming in from out of town playing at local venues and …

Your favorite shows might be going on hiatus, but not Milling About! Ken and Mandy are back, and this time they’ve got an impeccable set from singer-songwriter Tristen, live in the Milling About Studio! One guess as to where you can download these exclusive tracks – that’s right, here at ENS.

The (Blood)Buzz around The National right now could not be any higher and for good reason. The New York by way of Cincinnati band has hit a new peak with the release of High Violet, their excellent new album. Our photographer extrodenaire Keith Klenowski has earned the bands trust and did all of their promotional shots this time around, including the pictures on the inside of the album.

 Album Reviews and Reclaimed

Welcome to a new feature on Each Note Secure we like to call “Reclaimed.” This feature will focus on an album of the past, maybe 30 years ago, or maybe 3 years ago. With the onslaught of new music that is thrust upon us everyday, it’s fun to look back at something we really loved and getting reintroduced to it.

As big fans of most things Wilco here at ENS, we were very saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Jay Bennett last year at the young age of 45. Jay was an incredibly talented musician who deserves alot of credit for records like Summerteeth and Yankee Hotel …

The Ultimate Cincinnati Music Twitter List

Post Thumbnail of The Ultimate Cincinnati Music Twitter List
 Cincinnati and Music News

Remember when everyone started making lists about musicians on Twitter? It was about a year ago and we like to think we were one of the first to do it, check out that post right here. Although that list and several of the others are now badly outdated, I thought it would be fun to do a new list. Even though now on twitter you can do “lists” as well on your own. Funny how things progress eh?

Forecastle Festival Adds More Acts, Including Cincinnati Bands

Post Thumbnail of Forecastle Festival Adds More Acts, Including Cincinnati Bands

We have been a supporter of the Forecastle Festival for years now, and each time a new lineup is announced, the organizers seem to ramp up its appeal. This year might be the best when it comes to bands, as evidenced by headliners like Spoon, The Flaming Lips, Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, Drive-By Truckers and She & Him.

Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings Live @ Southgate House

Cincinnati, Live Reviews and Music News

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings are certainly crowd pleasers. They’ve built a solid following over the last decade or so with albums of vibrant 60’s style funk and soul, as well as diligent touring. They’ve turned even more heads with their latest record, I Learned the Hard Way, which already sounds set to top “best-of-the-year” lists come December. Heading into their show at the Southgate House on Monday night, I felt a collected energy of anticipation in the crowd (consisting of everyone from young hipsters and partiers to graying hippies and soccer moms on a girls’ night out) that I’ve rarely felt at a concert, especially on a Monday night.

Midlake & Jason Lytle Live @ Southgate House

Cincinnati, Live Reviews and Music News

Midlake has done little that has caught my attention since the release of The Trials of Van Occupanther in 2006, with the exception of a delightful collaboration with The Chemical Brothers—which turned out to be more of a cut-and-paste sing-along than an actual ‘collaboration’. Their latest album, The Courage of Others, shamelessly pencil dives into the less exciting, more enigmatic moments of Occupanther, leaving no one doubting that these guys, with every nuanced, flute-based progression, are big time fans of Jethro Tull.
