Record Store Day 2012 In Cincinnati

Oh joy, Record Store Day is almost here! As you can probably guess, Team ENS squeals with delight at the mere thought of Record Store Day. For those unfamiliar, RSD is a celebration of the local record store, a day when artists and record stores unite for the love of music. It’s a whirlwind of rare and exclusive releases, in-store performances, and fighting off crazed audiophiles who literally camped out in front of the store all night so they could grab one of the 400 copies of his favorite artist’s exclusive bright green 7” release of that super rare single with the bonus hand screen printed sleeve (You can check out the full release list here if you want to be that guy).

Whether you take Record Store Day as seriously as a heart attack, or you’re a casual record store peruser, ENS has created a handy guide to Record Store Day in Cincinnati.

The lovely folks behind Salina Underground on WVQC (95.7 FM) and Southpaw Prints will be kicking off RSD 2012 with a Record Store Eve party at Northside Tavern on Friday, April 20th. The free show features headliner Brian Olive, as well as The Sweep and alt-country newcomers The Chance Brothers. Music starts at 9.

About

Joe started ENS in 2003 after most people he wanted to talk to about music were worn thin by his ramblings. The outlet this site provided helped out, and somehow is still going 9 years later. After a four year stint as a WOXY DJ, Joe returned to Cincinnati and continues to pioneer ENS. In addition to the overall look and feel of the site, Joe provides regular reviews, and kinda makes sure this whole thing stays afloat.

#1 euro60 :

I was at the in-store performances at Shake It.

Bad Veins is not really a band meant for “unplugged” performances, sorry. Without the reel-to-reel player, it’s just not the same. I did pick up the new CD of course.

Walk the Moon: where to begin? Of all the in-store performances I’ve seen there, this was the most crowded and the loudest ever. The band played its regular full-band, plugged-in, set of about an hour, I couldn’t believe it. They gave their all, and all of them were dripping with sweat a few songs into to the set. It’s impossible not to like their live set. After their set they stayed around to sign stuff, and the line to get to them went out the store onto the sidewalk and all the way around the corner!! Debut album on RCA coming out on 6/19. I hope for them they hit it big. It’s now or never.
