It’s 2011, and lets be honest, times are tough for lots of record labels these days. Which is why when a new label comes along, we raise an eyebrow and wonder about their intentions, and also what kind of music they plan to release. Well, it’s easy to stand behind a brand new label, that really doesn’t look like a label, which is getting it’s start this week.
The label is THE RECORDING LABEL and it’s being launched by local musician and now gracious curator Cameron Cochran. Cochran is a veteran of the Cincinnati music scene and has done just about everything from playing, singing, mixing and recording local music. So it’s a natural progression for him to take this step forward with THE RECORDING LABEL.
Thanks to Cochran’s connections and good taste, THE RECORDING LABEL starts things off with one of my favorite new Cincinnati bands, Sacred Spirits. Sacred Spirits is the brainchild of Josh Kufeldt, formerlly of indie pop force Pomegranates. But before you start jonesin’ for some sugary sweet synth be warned, Sacred Spirits are not the Poms and I really make the connection only to give you some reference.
Nope, SS are their own animal, raw with emotion, talent and enthusiasm. They break your heart and then put it back together again with their debut album, Some Stay. I hear some Deerhunter in the album, some old school punk rock and alot of sweat. If you want a taste, you can download the whole album right now for free because that is part of what THE RECORDING LABEL is about.
Support a local label and band. Read more about the label, and grab the whole Sacred Spirits album there right now. Below is one of my favorites from the album.
