SSLYBY
The guys from Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin got a proper release for their album today, Broom. Polyvinyl heard the blog buzz and the pop gems on the album, (originally self released) and inked the Springfield, Missouri band to a deal this summer. I caught them at the Midwest Music Sumitt and was quite impressed by the poise and consistency of thier set.

SSLYBY have a little bit of the poppiness that The Shins have used to thier benefit. Along with some instrumentation that is beyond the bands years. The album is good, with a couple of really great songs, most notably “House Fire” and “Oregon Girl”. Im more looking forward to what the future holds for these guys though, (name change?) Id say the best is yet to come.

Purchase from Polyvinyl.

Name change?! If you can’t embrace the name, don’t embrace the band. It’s funny though, they even seem a little weary of it. Philip Dickey was telling my great-uncle about his band, and he’s like “Well, we chose the name back in high school, before we thought it was going to be, like a real band; It’s Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.”
