Sounder
I recieved some goods in the mail this week from Volcom Entertainment, and among the tunes as a band called Sounder. The band is fronted by Mike Aho, who you may or may not know from his solo work. You can check out much more about Mike and the project known as ((sounder)) on his site, Celebrate Magic Hands. The album, “There is Another Sun Clouded over with meticulous care” is quite nice, Im having a hard time taking it out of my ibook today. Here are two tracks to get you hooked as well.

((sounder)) was formed in the spring of 2005 when Mike Aho and Steve Stratton began recording their long, minimized Mogwai-esque jams into a tape-recorder under a mini-ramp in Costa Mesa California.

The jams soon morphed into song directions and began to take shape, mixing and juxtaposing with Mike Aho’s singer-songwriter roots–the banging crescendos of Steve’s drumming added a new and beautiful dynamic. What was unconciously created was a balance that both musicians could call home. A sentimental rock and roll that echos back to obsessions with everything from Palace to Sebedoh to Godspeed.

Over the course of 2005 they recorded into a laptop and released a hand-made, CDR-EP. In late 2005 they began recording, ‘There is Another Sun Clouded Over with Meticulous Care’. The entire project was recorded and produced by mike aho and is available through Volcom Entertainment.

Me and my friend cali. My friend cali and I. LOVE your band. Your songs are some of the most heart pumping songs we have ever heard! Our all time favorite is ThoseDays rough remix. I just wanted to thank you so much for your band because it really has given my friend and I hope and opened our eyes to something really beautiful.
We are 16 and trying to start a band of our own and you guys have really inspired us to work hard at living out our dream/s.
We want you to keep at it with the great songs and hopefully you can come to Hacienda Heights, Ca one of these days. =)
    That would be the best.
Well thank you guys again, and we support you all so much!

burst of love, Sarah and Cali.

[…] There is something oddly addictive about the music of ((sounder)), something ever so familiar yet is nothing like you have ever heard before. It dips in and out of several genres and is the type of discovery I love to get my hands on. Especially since ((sounder)) was a discovery I made a couple years ago and wrote about here on ENS. […]
