Up until now, Tarwater has been mostly appealing to fans of electronic, mostly instrumental music. The German duo of Bernd Jestram and Ronald Lippok have recorded several albums like that over the past ten years. I cannot say I have been terribly familiar but this new disc, Spider Smile is certainly opening my ears.
Spider Smile has many of the same sounds fans have come to expect from the duo, and the majority of the album is instrumental, but this album also brings some hook laden pop numbers as well. Case in point, “A Marriage In Belomont”, which feels like something that belongs on an Air record and sets the tone with spine tingling keys and a beat that wriggle into your sub-conscious. Have a listen below….
Spider Smile is available now from Morr Music.
