The Autumn Defense has probably been best known to this point as the side project of some Wilco members. John Stirrat
[/tag] is the frontman of the band and has also been a core member of the Wilco team since the band began, as a matter of fact, Stirrat was also a part of Uncle Tupelo. John, with the help of Pat Sansone began The Autumn Defense in 2000 on his own label, which is run by himself and sister Laurie, Broadmoor Records.
The new album from The Autumn Defense, which is a self titled release, is the third full length from Pat and John and finds Pat doing much more in the writing department. Both members are talented musicians so its no surprise to see more of a contribution from Sansone on this effort. The album has all the soft and sugary melodies fans have come to expect from the duo, they seem to channel Simon and Garfunkel on tracks like Winterlight and This Will Fall Away, two of my early favorites.
And while its certainly not like anything Wilco has done in recent years, the music stands apart and deserves immediate respect from Wilco fans and others for its beautiful sounds that is reminiscent of 60’s soft rock. Have a listen to my two favorite tunes from the new record.
