Im happy to welcome a new writer to the Each Note Secure family today. Mike is a Cincinnati guy that loves music and was recently telling me how much he was enjoying the new album from The Big Sleep, so I asked him to provide his thoughts.

The Brooklyn based trio, The Big Sleep, have been quietly building an underground following through intense live shows, and a not so small sound. For a few years the band was purely instrumental. In a search for something “more” the band went through a handful of drummers, and a number of would-be vocalists. The final outcome was Sonya Balchandari (vocals, bass), Danny Barria (guitar, keys), and Gabe Rhodes (drums).
“Son of the Tiger”, the debut album following the EP “You Today, Me Tomorrow”, is rich with ambient noise and left me peeking around corners and turning down the computer to see where the extra sound was coming from.
The album begins with furious beat-heavy tracks Brown Beauty and Murder. Murder has more vocals than the other songs, and has distanced itself from the rest of the tracks in most critics’ minds. At first listen you may think these two fever tracks set the pace for a teeth grinding, foot stomping good time, however, by mid-album you will find yourself completely submerged in a psycadelic journey through space with Balchanari’s vocals stalking you along the way.
If the middle of the album is a journey into space, then Son of the Tiger (the title track) is the feeling of breaking through the atmosphere on your decent back to Earth. It is a guitar heavy track that will leave your heart pounding and hoping that everything is OK.
The pace and exploration of this album makes this a must listen. The ups and downs will keep you guessing and wondering as to what might be next.
