Lots of great new releases in stores today. There are new albums out from Bjork, Maximo Park and The Clientele just to name a few. But one that may have flown under your radar that deserves some attention is Forts from The Boggs. This was certainly a case of a band with some previous releases of which I had no history. Actually, I had not heard of The Boggs previous to spinning this album a few weeks ago for the first time.

The Boggs is a collaborative project led by Jason Friedman. Jason records a new album every few years or so, this being the third, not unlike most musicians. One thing that does set The Boggs apart however, is its rotating cast members. The current band includes Matt Schultz of Enon, Heather D’Angelo of Au Revior Simone and Sam Jayne from Love as Laughter among others. The collaborative work that began three years ago and is the first album from The Boggs since 2003s Stitches.

I am really enjoying this album so far and expect to be digging into it for quite awhile as I feel like I have only begun to dig into its many layers.
