So, who remembers Pitchfork back in 1998? Nobody? Yeah, me either, but apparently, it was around, and it was even reviewing albums. Although I can only find the ole waybackmachine giving this screenshot from 2000, the music blog website everyone loves to hate apparently was around. I know this because a recent band to come across my radar cites their 9.1 on Pitchfork from 1998 for their album September, November.

The follow up to that highly rated album, 2000’s American Matador earned an 8.0 from the fork as well. So, while that is a nice thing to put in your pr release, does it really matter much, did it make me listen to this new album, and why wait nearly 8 years to follow that second album up anyway?

These questions have varied answers, but the most important of them is that I have listened to the new disc from The Buddyrevelles, titled Don’t Quit, and it is really worth your time. The magnetic thing about this Chicago trio for me at least, is that it feels like they are not trying too hard. They just kinda do what they do best, and what they have been doing for a long time. I am quickly reminded of The Wrens or even The Forms new album. Bands that had some success before the world had 2 million music blogs and everyone had a critical opinion.

So, if you are interested in some straightforward indie pop/rock that has an incredibly honest quality and beauty to it, The Buddyrevelles might be your thing. Here are two songs to get you started.

The Buddyrevelles - Moods Of…
The Buddyrevelles - The Foreigner

And snag another song over on Stereogum as well….

The album is out now on Solitaire Records.
