If you are unfamiliar with Aussie rockers The Drones, then it is time to start catching up. The band is already pretty important in their homeland, and are slowly making waves here in the states as well. Just a little evidence of this is the recent pairing with indie superstars Band Of Horses, who just recently released their sophomore album, Cease To Begin.
The Drones will join BOH on tour next week in Charlottesville Virginia and continue on the road with them all the way until the end of November.
And also, this is pretty exciting, The Drones will be the first band to kick off the ATP Recordings series of double 7″ vinyl called Custom Made. Custom Made invites artists to submit 4 songs which will be released on limited edition 7″ and also made available as a digital download. The Drones version will sport the following tracklisting…..
01 Cockeyed Lowlife of the Highlands
02 I Don’t Ever Want to Change
03 I Drink
04 Shark Fin Blues
The 7″ will be available to purchase on November 5th

I tend to think that there’s just not anyone in town that has a real interest in booking these kind of shows. Now, here’s a case where the tour is skippng the entire area but outside of Chris at SGH, who’s there to book indie shows? Some may scoff but Nick Spencer did more to try and bring real on-the-verge bands through than anyone else in the past few years. Seems SGH’s indie (national acts) bookings are way down and other than a random Bogart’s or Madison booking, who’s gonna do it? I don’t think Dan McCabe does more than a few shows a year any more.
I go to a lot of shows and have been for years. One thing that i’ve noticed is the lack of people, really no matter the band, coming out. Even when it is only 3,4,5 bucks to get in. Much less all the free shows that are empty except for the 3 bands members (that are playing).

The tour apparently hits places like Fargo, ND and Bozeman, MT but somehow cannot find its way anywhere close to Cin-Day-Col-Indy-Lex-Lville (Chicago being the closest…)? Very disappointing.
