I have a confession to make that may exclude me from the indie hipster crowd that a certain online review blog website seems to be generating. I really do not get or enjoy the music of Dan Deacon or Battles despite the obvious gushing I have seen for both across the web. Some of it is alright, but for the most part, it is really unlistenable. And while I would nominate Pitchfork as playing the pied piper role for both of those bands (and booking them for their festival last weekend as well), I have to give them credit for including an act that I do not have a hard time listening to at all in The Field.
The Field is Axel Willner, and his style of electronic tunes is just what I enjoy from the ever growing laptop based genre. At this point, I would say The Field is still way underrated, but the previously mentioned Fork does love me, as evidenced by their review.
You can purchase the album from Kompackt Records, a German label, right here….., though it is honestly not easy to find, so here is a Amazon link as well.
The Field – A Paw In My Face (highly recommended)
