It’s sad how far rock and roll has been removed from mainstream music. I mean, if you look at a Billboard Hot 100 today, you will find loads of pop, hip hop and even a decent amount of country music, but almost no real rock n’ roll. But while some bemoan the death of a great genre, those of us with our ears to the ground know that it’s far from done, even if the mainstream doesn’t acknowledge it enough.

The Kickaways are pure rock music. They are wear your influences on your sleeve in a proud way rock music. They are ‘look the part’ rock music. Let me put it this way, if it was another era of our musical history, a band like The Kickaways might not be a secret very long. But right now they are, and as they sprout up from our humble city of Cincinnati, you need to become aware.

The Recording Label continues to back quality local projects, and The Kickaways are the latest installment in an already impressive stable. Their straight forward brand of rock needs to be consumed under the right circumstances though, don’t make the mistake I did and try to chew on this baby with your coffee early in the morning. No, take the album and play it loud in the car with the windows down, or let it soundtrack a workout or house cleaning session. Trust me on this one, it matters.
