This Brighton based 5 piece do not leave many clues about where they are from. The Maccabees sound and style are very British and very bouncy. Following in the paths of both historic Brit bands like The Kinks and also in the recent wave of “art-rock” acts such as Bloc Party and Dogs Die In Hot Cars, The Maccabees are in good company. Personally though, I was immediately struck with a very Maximo Park likeness, which may explain why I am digging it so much.
All comparisons aside, these guys make the kinds of poppy brit numbers that are like candy for the ears. I fell pretty fast for the song, “Precious Time” and as I have dug into the album further, I have noticed that there are other worthy songs of the same ilk as well. The band has already released 3 singles from the album in the UK late last year, and all have been included on the debut full length, Colour It In, of course spelled in the Brit sense.
The youngsters have also already shared the stage with fellow hotshots Arctic Monkeys, and are currently out on tour with both Bloc Party and Noisettes. (see dates below) The boys also make their own videos, and they are quite entertaining. Check one of them out below for their song, “About Your Dress.”
The album is in stores now, so be sure to pick it up!
