Every now and then, I get the urge to pop in the album, Neon Golden, the 2002 gem from The Notwist. I listen and wonder what happened to those guys. I mean, Neon Golden was just a brilliant album. With songs like “Pick Up The Phone” and “Pilot” the album for me, has been timeless in the 6 years since its release.
It turns out, The Notwist did not fall off the face of the earth, and actually have been fairly active in the time since Neon Golden. They formed a group with the band, Themselves named 13 & God, whose eponymous debut was released in 2005, and also scored music for a German film Distant Lights. But with no proper Notwist offerings, they had nearly fallen off my radar.
Great news though, as the band have been hard at work on the follow up to Neon Golden, and it is slated to arrive here in the states in June from Domino Records. The album will be available in the UK much earlier, in early May from City Slang.
Here is the first song to surface from the new album, The Devil, You + Me, “Good Lies.”
