The MidPoint Music Festival kicked off here in Cincinnati last night, and while by all accounts it was a rousing success, (pics and words coming soon) there was one bit of bad news to report. The Scotland Yard Gospel Choir, a band based in Chicago and one of the bands we were most excited about for this years festival, had a van accident last night on the way to their MidPoint performance.
According to the Chicago Tribune, six members of a Chicago indie/pop band were injured when their van rolled over on I-65 in Indiana Thursday afternoon.
All six members of the Scotland Yard Gospel Choir band suffered head injuries and other trauma in the accident and have been hospitalized.
Indiana state police said a preliminary investigation showed the band’s 1999 Chevrolet van was southbound in the left lane when a tire failed on the rear passenger side, causing the van to roll over multiple times on the grassy median.
The crash took place about 3:30 p.m. at the 218 milemarker, about 50 miles south of Chicago and 3 miles north of the Rensselaer exit off I-65, Indiana State Police Sgt. Ann Wojas said in a news release. The band members were headed to Cincinnati, Ohio.
Please keep the band in your thoughts and prayers today for a speedy recovery.
